What is the DVLA sealed bids auction?
In October 2008 the DVLA experimented with a new type of number palte auction.
Instead of hosting a 3 day event and inviting members of the public to bid in person, they held a sealed bids auction for 1500 lots – closing Friday 31st October 2008.
31% of the lots remained unsold and the uptake of bidders and sale of private number plate lots was poorer than expected.
The DVLA are expected to revisit this format and find other ways to sell cherished number plates directly to the public.
